Tabor New Frame Film Festival
About us
Tabor New Frame Film Festival is an International short film festival held at Veliki Tabor Castle in the Croatian region of Hrvatsko zagorje. The festival is dedicated to presenting contemporary short films by filmmakers up to the age of 35, with the aim of supporting new cinematic voices and providing a platform for emerging authors from diverse cultural and social backgrounds.
The festival represents a new programmatic and conceptual chapter of the long-running Tabor Film Festival, one of the most significant regional festivals devoted to short film, which was held at the same location for more than two decades. Continuing the tradition of international selection and strong auteur-oriented programming, Tabor New Frame Film Festival places its focus on a new generation of filmmakers and on contemporary themes and aesthetic approaches that shape today’s audiovisual landscape.
The competition programme includes international and national selections of short films of various genres, including fiction, documentary, animation, and experimental works. Special emphasis is placed on filmmakers up to the age of 35, as well as on an inclusive approach that encourages submissions by authors of all genders, different poetics, and diverse production contexts. The selection highlights originality, innovation in film language, and thematic relevance in relation to contemporary social and artistic developments.
Screenings and festival events take place in the unique historical setting of Veliki Tabor Castle, creating a distinctive connection between cultural heritage and contemporary film expression, while providing an intimate yet professional environment for encounters between filmmakers, audiences, and film professionals. In addition to film screenings, the festival programme includes talks with authors, guest appearances, educational activities, and accompanying events aimed at knowledge exchange, audience development, and international collaboration.
Tabor New Frame Film Festival takes place in early summer and brings together participants from numerous countries, continuing the festival’s tradition as a relevant platform for short film and for new generations of film authors.
